For a third year in a row, the Chicago Bears have partnered with ATHLiTACOMiCS (started by Bears alum Israel Idonije) to create “Monsters of the Midway” trading cards, an expansion of the original campaign that launched in 2018 and melded the world of comics and sports. Through the collaboration, the Bears and Idonije's team created an alternate universe where players are depicted as superheroes collectively known as the “Monsters of the Midway.” Each player has a unique power, which plays off his natural skillset on the field. A total of 20,000 packs of trading cards will be distributed to fans for FREE during the 2023-24 season.
The 2023 edition of the “Monsters of the Midway” trading cards are produced by Panini and feature 25 players, the most ever since the annual collection started. The collection is a mix of standard cards and five current players in a foil finish (Jaquan Brisker, Tremaine Edmunds, Justin Fields, Cole Kmet and DJ Moore). There will also be a run of two limited-edition foil alumni cards of Mike Singletary and Sid Luckman. The Singletary and Luckman cards are not included in the packs but can only be won through the “Monsters of the Midway Trading Card Sweepstakes.” Every month during the season, 10 lucky fans that enter the sweepstakes will receive a full set of all 27 cards, including the limited-edition Singletary and Luckman cards. There are only 100 full, numbered sets in existence. The sweepstakes will run August 28, 2023 – January 7, 2024.
Fans can find the Monsters of the Midway Trading Cards at Chicago Bears home games and fan events, Staley Da Bear appearances, Miller Lite Away Game Watch Parties, Bears Fit, Chicago Bears Kids Club activations and through a variety of surprise and delight giveaways on social media and alongside community partners (while supplies last). Each of the packets will contain seven randomized player cards and a checkbox card.
